Challenge: To regenerate Reserve Assault Pioneer capability, where no training / job specifications currently existed. This required analysis of new job roles without any defined policy and consideration of resources constraints (time [14 days max], real estate, manpower). The Army policy also stated that Regulars and Reserves should (where feasibly possible) integrate and undergo the same training for each role

Solution: Utilising The Regular Assault Pioneer documentation where available, and conducting bespoke job analysis on the commanders role, all the performance tasks were prioritised as high, medium and low. This prioritisation supported the design and content of the 14 day integrated programme, with risk being taken against the low tasks. Training was allocated to workplace delivery where it could be feasibly delivered

Results: Production of fully auditable training for four Assault Pioneer roles. Integrated with Regular / Reserve centralised delivery core elements (14 days), with workplace delivery where resources are available and a clear identification of the training gap

“Waves built upon the foundation of their previous work and were able to analyse the Res requirement, which was not formally defined by the customer and appreciate the subtle nuances surrounding Res capability, expectations and the reality of training them. The result is a comprehensive product that can be used to design training that is also suitably adaptable and future proof.”
